Air Miles chief quits in reshuffle

The Air Miles Travel Company director of mileage partnerships Charles D’Oyly is to leave the company following a restructure.

D’Oyly, who at one time held responsibility for marketing at the travel reward company, is leaving of his own volition “to pursue other interests”.

He steps down at the end of next month when a new structure comes into play that merges the company’s commercial and mileage departments to form a strategy and partnerships department. This will be headed by commercial director Duncan Olby, who will have the title strategy and partnerships director.

Air Miles is also creating a customer insight department, which will have responsibility for customer research and database management. It has recruited Nigel Grimes, a consultant and former head of customer relationship management at British Gas, as customer insight director.

D’Oyly joined Air Miles in September 2001 from OgilvyOne New York, where as client services director he worked with the American Airlines AAdvantage programme.

He was the last senior marketer at the company to work with former managing director Drew Thomson. Thomson left Air Miles in May after failing to pull off a management coup and was replaced by BA head of loyalty Chris Jansen (MW May 27).
