Y&R faces £5m COI energy pitch

The Government-backed Energy Saving Trust (EST) is reviewing its advertising business – estimated to be worth &£5m – held by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R.

The trust is inviting pitches from agencies, with the review being handled by COI Communications. The move is not a statutory review of the business, which has been held by Rainey Kelly since 1999.

It is not known whether Rainey Kelly will repitch for the business. The agency won the account to promote the EST’s Energy Efficiency brand after a pitch against incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi almost six years ago (MW March 11, 1999).

The news comes as EST prepares to run a multi-million pound campaign, created by Rainey Kelly, across television, press and radio, under the strapline “You can make a difference”.

The campaign promotes Energy Efficiency Commitment, under which gas and electricity suppliers set targets for home energy efficiency (MW January 13).

The EST was established as part of a government action plan following the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
