Tesco adds Food Club to loyalty portfolio

Tesco is launching a Food Club, which will entitle Clubcard holders to a free magazine and special offers.

The supermarket already runs a Kids Club, a Baby and Toddler Club, a Healthy Living Club and a World of Wine Club.

Clubcard holders are being sent an invitation to join the Food Club, with a coupon to present to the cashier, along with their Clubcard, so they can claim the first edition of the Tesco Food Club Magazine. Members of the club will receive four magazines a year, each containing recipes, cooking tips, competitions, special offers and product coupons that award extra Clubcard points. The magazine is aimed at customers who are looking for culinary inspiration and who already have an interest in, and knowledge of, cooking.

A Tesco spokeswoman says: “We find that people who join the clubs have great loyalty to Tesco and trust the brand.”

By building various membership clubs, Tesco is better able to segment its Clubcard database and to work with its suppliers in targeting marketing communications and special offers.

Tesco has also teamed up with home improvement retailer MFI to offer customers a new way to collect Clubcard points. For every &£1 spent at MFI, Clubcard holders will be awarded one Clubcard point. Clubcard vouchers can also be exchanged for MFI tokens worth four times the amount.
