Not one to chukka away an opportunity

Staff at European Business magazine have discovered, reading their latest issue, that Chivas Regal’s sponsorship of their letters page is, while interesting enough, considerably less riveting than one of the Scotch brand’s other tie-ins.

For, deep in the jungles of a Maoism-haunted mountain monarchy, followers of a rather unusual sport have been nailing their colours to the mastodon and cheering on their teams at a truly mammoth event: the Elephant Polo Championships.

Although the event, held in southern Nepal, has been sponsored by Chivas since 1998, spectators are warned not to get too inebriated at the Babar – the Nepalese police take a very dim view of the trunk and disorderly.
