HSE hands £6m work to Zenith Optimedia

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has appointed Zenith Optimedia to handle planning and buying for a &£6m project to change behaviour in the workplace.

The pitch for the three-year contract was conducted by COI Communications and is thought to have been between Manning Gottlieb OMD, Starcom MediaVest and Zenith Optimedia. In February, the HSE, a public-sector body funded by the Department of Work and Pensions, handed its &£2m advertising account to Cheetham Bell JWT.

The account had been held by McCann Erickson Manchester, but was put up for review last year (MW April 29, 2004). Cheetham Bell JWT won the contract after pitching against the incumbent and BDH/TBWA. The appointment came at the end of a strategic review by the HSE which resulted in an increased marketing spend, of &£10m over three years.

Cheetham Bell JWT’s appointment included an advertising brief to support HSE’s priority programmes, which include campaigns dealing with workplace stress; health and safety in agriculture and construction; and safety from falls.
