Land Rover promotes UK sales chief to global role

Land Rover UK sales director Julian Whitehead has been promoted to global brand communications director following a restructure at the Ford-owned marque.

The role of global marketing director has been split, with Whitehead taking responsibility for the brand and Colin Green, who was global marketing director, becoming product marketing director.

As part of the reshuffle, Discovery brand manager Andy Griffiths was made UK marketing director at the end of last year. Griffiths replaced Green when he was promoted to global marketing director.

Green and Whitehead both report to Land Rover managing director Matthew Taylor in their new roles.

Land Rover launched a new advertising campaign for its Range Rover Sport model this week. Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R has created a nine-week television campaign to promote the model. It will be supported by heavyweight outdoor activity. MindShare handles media planning and buying.

The Range Rover Sport is Land Rover’s first foray into the performance SUV sector. A spokesman says: “The Range Rover Sport is a bit of a transformation for Land Rover. People tend to associate our vehicles with agricultural pursuits, but the Range Rover Sport shows we can compete in the performance sector.”
