Firstplus on the lookout for marketer

Firstplus Financial, a division of Barclays, is looking for a director of marketing and customer relationship management following Alaric Churchill’s departure. It is not known whether he has a job to go to.

The secured personal loans company, whose advertising is fronted by celebrity mathematician Carol Vorderman, has appointed consultant Alida Maccietto to handle marketing duties in the meantime.

Churchill joined Cardiff-based Firstplus less than a year ago from Barclaycard, and appointed a new roster of agencies. Starcom MediaVest won the £6m media planning and buying account from MediaCom North, while EHS Brann picked up the below-the-line account from incumbent Black Cat, a division of J Walter Thompson. Equi-media retained the online media account.

He took over the role from Julia Dalimore, who joined the company in 2001, becoming head of marketing before being promoted to director.

The financial services company, which has more than 70,000 customers, was founded in 1997. Vorderman has been used in its advertising since 1998. She appeared in its latest integrated campaign, including a direct-response TV ad, earlier this year (MW February 3).
