Sony Ericsson to sponsor music events as part of Walkman phone launch

Sony Ericsson is to sponsor Ibiza Rocks – a series of concerts taking place on the island this summer – to promote its new Walkman phone, which will be launched in the UK later this year.

The sponsorship forms part of a programme of activity around the launch of the W800i Walkman phone. Sony Ericsson will be giving clubbers a first look at the phone and creating live music experiences using the product at each event.

The mobile phone manufacturer has teamed up with Manumission and the Barfly to be the headline sponsor of the rock/dance fusion gigs.

Every Friday for nine weeks, from July 22, bands including Kaiser Chiefs, The Futureheads and The Bravery will play in Ibiza’s first dedicated live music venue, the Manumission Music Box. In addition to the bands, DJs including Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and Xfm’s Eddy Temple Morris will take to the stage.

Limited tickets for the gigs are available, but as part of the sponsorship deal Sony Ericsson will be running competitions to win VIP tickets, flights and accommodation.

Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland marketing director Ben Padley says: “This sponsorship is the start of a number of key associations for Sony Ericsson within the music arena, designed to support our forthcoming range of music products.”
