The Telegraph Group has appointed Hall Moore CHI to its &£8.5m direct marketing account following a three-way pitch. The move is likely to strengthen Clemmow Hornby Inge’s (CHI) hold on the advertising account.

Hall Moore CHI is the direct marketing arm of CHI, the agency that handles the Telegraph’s above-the-line business.

The agency, which beat Personal in a final contest after Rapier had been eliminated, has been brought on board to increase The Daily Telegraph’s subscription base, which currently accounts for about one-third of the readership.

The Telegraph previously worked with direct marketing agencies on a project basis.

Telegraph Group marketing director Katie Vanneck says: “In appointing Hall Moore CHI, we are able to consolidate our brand and marketing communications while taking our relationship with our most loyal and valuable customers to the next level of recognition and reward.”

Earlier this month, The Daily Telegraph teamed up with Victor Chandler to launch the first scratchcard poker game (MW last week).
