Pat’s charity fundraiser is in the jeans

Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his campaign to raise funds for genetic research and family support services. OK, so maybe it doesn’t have the same ring to it as the real theme tune, but such a lyrical alteration is necessary to highlight Pat’s role in fronting the Jeans for Genes Day 2005 on October 7.

The fundraiser, which asks people around the UK to wear denims instead of their usual work or school outfits and make a donation to Jeans for Genes, which is celebrating its tenth birthday. In the past ten years it has raised more than &£20m for charity. This year, beneficiaries will include the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and SPARKS. In using Pat, the Jeans for Genes Day is hoping to appeal to children, particularly those in nursery schools, who will receive a Postman Pat thank you pack should they take part.

Sadly, Jess the Cat seems to have opted against donning a denim flea collar, but Pat looks happy enough, even if he does bear a worrying resemblance to Jeremy Clarkson. Given the obvious temptation to persuade the Crazy Frog to slip into a pair of Wranglers and irritatingly ribbit along to a 1980s pop track, the Diary thinks Pat’s a perfect choice.
