Time for fellas to foster a fluffy philtrum-filler

Des Lynam has one, the Australian cricket team used to have them (when they were half decent), porn stars are required to have them by law, and the Diary’s old Aunt Edna used to let her young nephews and nieces swing on hers.

And now moustaches are the must-have fashion item for this autumn. So, at least, says the press release promoting the TacheBack challenge, a month-long fundraiser raising money for Everyman and its research into testicular and prostate cancer. The challenge is to raise money by growing a sponsored moustache in the month of September.

Backed by 118 118 (who else?), celebrities have been clambering all over themselves to support the Tacheback cause. Indeed, former Atomic Kitten singer Jenny Frost says: “I love a chap with a bushy ‘tache – it separates a real man from the boys.”

The Diary would have thought this would put most people off, but it has not deterred the brave men from Toast Marketing.

They have been quick off the mark to claim the nickname “Magnum” for the next few weeks, and anyone wishing to sponsor them should visit www.justgiving.com/ toastmarketing – or, should they wish to decorate their own upper lip, more information about the fund- raiser can be found on www.tacheback.com.
