Golley Slater wins Heineken Cup business
The 2006 Heineken Cup has appointed Golley Slater to handle its advertising in the run-up to the European rugby competition, to be held on Saturday May 20, 2006 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
The Cardiff-based agency will handle all promotional activity and has been briefed to focus on attracting advance ticket sales. It is likely to develop a targeted press campaign and programmes for the matches. Radio slots are also being considered.
Television partners Sky Sports, France Television, Sport Plus, RTE and Sky Italia will cover 26 of the 36 opening games, the quarter- and semi-finals and the final.
The return of the cup to Cardiff marks the fourth time the Millennium Stadium has played host to the tournament.
More than 300 tickets have been sold for the final and the 44 competing clubs have confirmed that, for the first time in three years, it will be played on Saturday and not a Sunday.
Cardiff will also be hoping for a multi-million pound windfall as a result of hosting the cup.
In 2005, when it was held at Murrayfield in Scotland, most spectators booked three months in advance.
