PHD loses Decathlon account to MediaCom

Sportswear retailer Decathlon is set to shift its media buying and planning account from PHD to MediaCom.

The business, worth just over &£1m, will move to MediaCom in six months, when Decathlon’s contract with PHD runs out.

Communications department manager Richard Hill oversaw a pitch involving PHD, MediaCom and Starcom.

PHD’s work has comprised radio, press, outdoor and sponsorship of sporting events. The retailer says there are no plans to change the strategy when MediaCom takes over the account.

Decathlon uses a roster of agencies for its creative work, including Rise and Template.

Communications manager Laura Lum says: “There are no plans to review the creative arrangements, but we are always open to other ideas.”

Decathlon stocks a wide range of sporting goods, from general sportswear to specialist equipment. The retailer stocks its own-branded range of products as well as ranges from other manufacturers.

The chain was established in France, and has more than 300 stores worldwide, including six UK outlets, in London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield and Stockport. It plans to open another store – at Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock, Essex – in November.
