EasyJet appoints temporary top marketer

Former Opodo chief executive David Scowsill has joined no-frills airline easyJet as interim sales and marketing director, making him the senior marketer at the company.

His arrival comes as the carrier is searching for an advertising agency. The hunt is being overseen by marketing services manager David Meliveo, who recently incorporated the role of head of marketing into his job as part of a restructure of the marketing department.

Meliveo will retain charge of the pitch, which is being handled through the AAR, but he will report to Scowsill.

Although Scowsill has only been appointed temporarily, easyJet says there is no actual time-frame on his tenure and the company is not actively looking for a replacement.

Scowsill reports directly to chief executive Ray Webster, who is leaving the company in December and will be replaced by former RAC chief executive Andrew Harrison.

Scowsill takes over from John Stephenson, who had held the role since April. He has been promoted to network and contribution director.

Stephenson, who was revenue and scheduling manager until April, took on the senior marketing position after the departure of Mike Cooper, who left to become managing director of Arriva Buses (MW April 21).

Scowsill joined Opodo in 2002 from Orange, where he was manager of the consumer division. He has held senior marketing roles at British Airways, American Airways and Hilton International. He resigned from Opodo last year.
