Shoot the breeze in ‘Nam to raise cash for cancer

It may surprise a few of you to learn that the Diary served in ‘Nam, during which time it had quite a few run-ins with Charlie. Like many of its generation, the Diary worked behind the bar at Yates’ Wine Lodge, Cheltenham, and was constantly at loggerheads with the boss, Charlie Robinson.

Meanwhile, in a totally unconnected story, Chris Foden of digital network agency AKQA is going to Vietnam for a cause that deserves a much better introduction than the series of weak puns in the first paragraph. Chris and his brother are going to cycle 500 miles across Vietnam over eight days in the first two weeks of November.

Chris isn’t just going through this arduous, impressive feat for the fun of it though. He was diagnosed with cancer in his knee last year and now has a metal knee replacement, so he is doing the “Cycle Vietnam” challenge to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital. Money raised will fund research into new cancer drugs as well as provide equipment to improve care for those who, unlike Chris, are still suffering with the disease.
