It is understood that four undisclosed agencies were also involved in the pitch, which was called earlier this year (MW September 15). Parent company Seiko has been using agencies on a project basis and has not had an agency of record since the start of 2004.

Rainey Kelly has been given a brief to revitalise Pulsar as a “contemporary and relevant” brand. A campaign, running in print and style press, is expected to break early next year.

Mitchell Patterson Grime Mitchell (MPGM) previously worked for Seiko brands Pulsar and Lorus, but the agency closed down in April 2004. It had handled the business for less than two years after it was moved without a pitch from Interfocus (MW August 22, 2002).

Earlier that year, Seiko appointed Universal McCann to handle its media planning and buying across Europe. BKJ&E handles the work in the UK.

Other brands and licences in the Seiko stable include Breil, D&G, Disney and Nike. The company is part of the Japanese electronics giant Seiko Group.
