A Black Hole two ‘L’ keeps the Diary in this DM purgatory

A couple of weeks ago, the Diary allowed itself to be drawn into a bit of direct marketing one-upmanship, when Philip (one “l”) Crick of The Black Hole was startled to see “himself” on a rival agency’s mailer (MW October 20). Phil’s real beef, however, was with the mis-spelling of his name (with two “l”s).

Now, CCS Direct Mail – the rival agency in question – has hit back. An informant at the agency points out that it double-checked Crick’s name on The Black Hole’s website, under “More about Phil”. And, as you can see, there are two “l”s. Unless you look elsewhere on the site. Where it’s spelled with one. Perhaps there are a pair of Cricks.

The two agencies would no doubt love to continue their gentle spat. The Diary, however, has just about had its fil.
