New Web job portal will ‘read’ jobseekers’ CVs

A new online job portal launches this week, called New9to5.com, which hopes to shake up the sector by providing jobseekers with more precise matches.

New9to5.com has been set up by Dan Brassington along with co-founder Michelle Mackay. They claim that artificial intelligence tagging technology will mean jobseekers will receive better matches on their online job search.

The technology “reads” jobseekers’ CVs and extracts information. As opposed to using simple keyword search facilities, the site searches CVs for the context of words and uses predictive matching to match them to vacancies. New9to5.com has also signed a deal with lastminute.com, the online travel retailer. It will provide a jobs channel for lastminute’s site, through which jobseekers can access vacancies.

Jobseekers can apply for a job instantly online, while the site also offers personalised searches through e-mail, SMS or an RSS feed direct to a desktop; and career advice from New9to5.com’s own candidate advice centre.

Each registered candidate will receive a &£20 Virgin Wine voucher on registration and every month there will be a free prize draw.

Chief executive Brassington says: “Once job-hunters and recruiters have seen how our technology works, they won’t want to go anywhere else. We confidently expect to be one of the top UK recruitment websites within a year.

“What Google has done for the internet, we are doing for online recruitment. We see this as the future of online recruitment.”

The site covers more than 35 industries and sectors and advertises jobs from all over the UK.
