Npower battles for custom with energy-saving device

Npower is to offer new customers a free device that it claims saves energy and money, as the battle for customers in the energy sector hots up.

The Electrisave monitor will be given to customers signing up to npower. The utility company says the move is part of a strategy to encourage consumers to monitor their energy consumption more closely.

Electrisave is a wireless monitor that tells householders how much energy they are using. The device also shows how much energy costs in pence per hour and how much electricity each appliance in a home uses; it can also monitor households’ CO2 emissions.

Alongside the promotion for new customers, npower will conduct a year-long trial of Electrisave using existing customers to measure the extent to which the scheme will change their behaviour and reduce their energy bills.

Npower product manager Mark Montgomery says: “Npower aims to help people identify areas in their daily routine where they are using the most energy. This will help them make lifestyle changes, whether switching the lights off when leaving the room or not leaving the television on standby while at work. This will not only save households money on their annual fuel bills, but also help with the battle against climate change.”
