New Campaign – Scope

The Gate has created a poster campaign for the charity Scope as part of its “Time to get equal transport” initiative.

The posters feature images of disabled people bearing the brunt of discrimination from other passengers and even staff on rail, road and air services. In one, a person is shown being given “the finger” by another passenger, but Scope defends the ad. “We are unapologetic if we receive complaints – it’s highlighting lived experiences of disablism,” says a spokesman for the charity. The campaign breaks on November 21 and will run until the new year.

Scope, which supports people with cerebral palsy, launched the “Time” campaign as part of its wider push for equal treatment for the disabled. It says the rail industry has been given until 2020 to comply with accessibility rules laid down in the Disability Discrimination Act. Buses have until 2017 and the aviation industry is exempt.
