David handed top global Bacardi marketing role

Bacardi-Martini has promoted long-serving marketer Stella David, responsible for the launch of Bacardi Breezer in 1994, to global marketing chief for Bacardi. Her appointment comes in the middle of a &£90m global advertising pitch for the brand.

David is due to replace Michele Recalt as global Bacardi chief marketing officer. Recalt is thought to have left without a job to go to.

This is David’s third job with the spirits company in just over a year. She started in 1994 as the marketing controller for Bacardi brands.

Last October, former UK managing director David was promoted to head the North American operation as the president of Bacardi US (MW October 28, 2004). She was replaced by vice-president of emerging markets John Beard. However, her promotion was thrown into limbo after Bacardi-Martini confirmed that her new title was no longer “valid”. She was instead given the new role of managing director for global procurement, production and manufacturing functions for Bacardi (MW March 10).

In her new role as chief marketer for Bacardi, David will be responsible for managing the global pitch. UK incumbent Fallon, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/ Y&R and David & Goliath are thought to be pitching for the business.

In the past, David was responsible for the appointment of McCann Erickson, remembered for the Tom Cat campaign for Breezer.
