Web application tools essential for success

Media companies are increasingly relying on internet-based services to deliver information and news as it happens. Speed of delivery and accuracy are key differentiators in this highly competitive sector, yet companies are still enduring poor performance and service failure in critical Web-based systems.

Most companies mistakenly believe they have systems and application management covered, having invested heavily in management tools to support mainframe, client server and web platforms.

However, applications are now much more complex and existing tools do not provide the visibility required to track and monitor the performance of high-volume online transactions.

If organisations are to maximise their investment in web-based systems, they must have complete control of transactions across multiple systems. The focus must not be on individual system performance, but on the entire process that contributes to the customer – or internal user – experience.

Clinging to the belief that traditional systems-management tools are adequate is not just misjudged, it is recklessly undermining profitability. As dependence on web-based technology grows, excellent performance is just as vital as service innovation. Enterprise application management technology must be embedded into the culture of an organisation. Without it, companies are putting their reputations on the line.
