GCap Media’s music chart airs teenage safety podcast

GCap Media’s music chart Hit40uk is to offer its first podcast as part of the Home Office’s internet safety campaign targeting teenagers.

The Home Office aims to raise awareness of internet safety among 11- to 14-year-olds and hopes the podcasts will drive young listeners to the www.thinkuknow.co.uk website, where visitors will find tips on how to be “smart online” while staying “safe offline”.

As part of the initiative, Hit40uk will stream two podcast shows in association with thinkuknow.co.uk on February 19 and 26. The Hit40uk website will also carry information on Web safety from tomorrow (Friday). Listeners can download the podcasts from 4pm on Sunday. They will be promoted live on air and in Hit40uk’s weekly newsletters.

The campaign partners also hope to offer a fresh approach to internet safety that resonates with the target market which, according to GCap, “knows the risks, but often chooses to ignore them”.

GCap Media interactive sales executive Michelle Faiman says: “Hit40uk provides the perfect environment to target 11- to 14-year-olds, and the podcast chart show is an effective medium to educate users about the importance of online safety.”
