Grundig picks senior team for relaunch

Electronics group Alba has appointed a senior management team for Grundig ahead of a major relaunch of the brand later this year.

Former sales and marketing director for consumer electronics at Samsung, David Oldroyd has joined as managing director. He has hired Mark Neave, former group marketing manager at Samsung, as general manager. Neave will head marketing for the brand and is currently recruiting staff for its marketing and product development team.

Oldroyd, who has also worked in management and sales at Aiwa, Sharp and Kenwood, says that the brand aims to be at the “forefront of all new technologies” and wants to take a lead in areas such as integrated digital TVs (iDTV).

Neave says that the company is also focusing on developing easy to use products that suit the content available to UK consumers, such as Sky, games consoles and DAB radio.

The Grundig brand has been unavailable in the UK for four years, but will be relaunched later this summer with the strapline “Made for You”, which it already uses in Germany. There is marketing activity planned for the second half of the year.
