Mirror acting head fills Hattam’s gap

Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) has appointed Tim Anderson as acting head of marketing in an effort to stabilise the marketing team following marketing director Will Hattam’s departure earlier this year.

But it is not clear whether Anderson will remain in the position permanently as the top marketing job seems to be a straight fight between him and senior marketing manager Jennifer Llewellyn, currently on maternity leave.

Since Hattam left in February to take up a position at EMAP, Anderson – previously part of the marketing team at MGN for many years – has led the team responsible for all marketing and promotions activity across the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People.

In addition, marketing executive Victoria Ellis has been promoted to marketing manager.

A spokesman for MGN says: “The appointments are designed to help formalise the department’s structure following the departure of marketing director Will Hattam earlier this year.”

An insider says: “Tim has been appointed as acting head of marketing because it was felt it would be inappropriate to make a permanent change in Jennifer’s absence. You can’t discount someone external being recruited but, for now, Tim is going to report to managing director Richard Webb.”
