Ex-Heinz chief joins Williams as head of marketing

WilliamsF1, the racing team, has appointed former Heinz marketing chief Scott Garrett as head of marketing. He joins the company this week.

Garrett will be responsible for the brand’s existing commercial business and developing new partnerships. It has a large number of existing partners, including Royal Bank of Scotland, Budweiser, Philips and Puma.

Frank Williams, founder of the team, says: “We are very much looking forward to harnessing Scott’s experience and expertise in our continuing efforts to better support our existing commercial partners, as well as helping us attract new sponsors.”

Garrett left Heinz, where he was vice-president of brands, without a job to go to last August. His departure followed the company’s decision to freeze its &£25m advertising budget (MW July 20).

He was appointed as chief executive of the mobile marketing company The Light Agency in December last year (MW December 1). He was briefed to develop the 20-strong company.

Garrett started his career at Saatchi & Saatchi, but has also worked at JWT and Leo Burnett.

He joined Heinz in January 2004 as acting brand director. He was appointed to vice-president after a year, with responsibility for brand strategy and development.
