Enterprise IG wins Ernst & Young branding

Enterprise IG, the WPP Group brand identity shop headed by former JWT London chief executive Simon Bolton, has been appointed to handle the global branding strategy for Ernst & Young, the world’s third largest accounting company.

The consultancy won the multimillion account following a competitive pitch through The Haystack Group against Lambie Nairn and US branding agency Lippincott Mercer. Ernst & Young global marketing director Eddie Bowman, a former WPP executive, oversaw the pitch.

It is not thought the appointment will affect any of the company’s existing marketing services roster. Its agencies of record include Publicis, Spirit and financial services specialist Masius.

About half of Ernst & Young’s business is in the US, although Bowman is based in the UK. He was appointed two years ago as its first global marketing director following stints at rivals Arthur Andersen, which was embroiled in the Enron accounting scandal, and KPMG. Previously he worked at advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, where he became head of account management.

Bolton, who left JWT in November last year, became global chief executive of Enterprise IG in January. The company has worked with a number of clients including Coca Cola, Peroni, Credit Suisse – which rebranded last year – and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
