Chevrolet UK has promoted sales director Rory Harvey to managing director following the departure of Andy Carroll. Harvey will be responsible for the Chevrolet brand in the UK, as it no longer has a marketing director.
Carroll is leaving Chevrolet to “further his career outside General Motors”. He joined GM for a second time in June 2002 ahead of the company’s acquisition of the Daewoo brand later that year, and oversaw the rebranding of Daewoo as Chevrolet.
Harvey joined GM in 1989 as a graduate trainee and held a number of roles in the marketing, sales and after-sales departments, before being made sales director in 2004.
Chevrolet’s marketing function has been overseen by Carroll since April, when marketing director Rob Smettem left the company. A spokeswoman says Harvey will now have overall responsibility for the Chevrolet brand in the UK but adds that the marque also uses senior marketers from GM – and Vauxhall in particular – to help run its marketing department.
Earlier this year, Chevrolet appointed FCB London to handle the pan-European advertising business for the launch of its Captiva SUV, following a three-way pitch.
FCB was also handed the pan-European launch of the Matiz last year after a roster pitch (MW May 19, 2005).
