Pringle of Scotland, the luxury fashion brand, has signed a six-figure deal to sponsor the UK leg of the Gary Player professional/amateur golf series.

Pringle has signed as a top line sponsor along with Calloway, the golfing brand; South African wine brand Boschendal; and Davenport Lyons, the law firm.

The deals, brokered by sports marketing agency Octagon, will guarantee the brands exposure at the two-day event, due to be broadcast on Sky Sports in July.

The competition, which will be held at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, is called the Gary Player Invitational and is part of the global Gary Player series, sponsored by Coca-Cola.

The series raises funds for the Player Foundation, which Player, a South African golfing champion, set up to provide educational, nutritional and sports programmes for schools around the world.

The series gives business people the chance to play with stars from sport, media and entertainment.

This year the celebrity golfers who have signed up to take part include Hollywood star Dougray Scott, footballer-turned commentator Ian Wright and Australian cricketer Shane Warne. Golfing stars will include Paul Casey and Justin Rose.
