InfoSpace wins newspapers deal

InfoSpace has signed a deal with the Guardian Media Group to power the search tools across its regional newspaper sites.

The deal, based on a revenue-sharing model, should be worth several million pounds for the companies involved, according to Info- Space Europe vice president Dominic Trigg.

The deal covers 36 newspaper websites based around titles from Surrey, Berkshire and Greater Manchester, which includes the Manchester Evening News.

InfoSpace will provide a meta-search service, providing results from all key search engines, including Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Ask. It will also provide contextual advertising for the sites.

The service is white-labelled, with no InfoSpace branding. For some sites, it is the first time they have offered search to their users.

The contract was signed after a competitive pitch believed to have included several of the major search engines, and has already gone live across the sites.
