Anheuser-Busch is understood to have appointed DDB London to its â¬10m (&£6.8m) advertising account for Budweiser Ireland. It is not clear if the agency pitched for the business or if incumbent Irish International.BBDO was involved.

The agency, which is already on the global roster, will handle all above-the-line work for the brand. The DDB network is the global agency of record for Anheuser-Busch but the brewer also works with Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R (RKCR/Y&R) in the UK.

RKCR/Y&R was responsible for the recent World Cup idents, and it has also created a number of TV ads focused round Budweiser’s Premier League sponsorship.

Irish International BBDO was responsible for developing the campaign for the Dublin-based Bud Rising Music Festival, and recently worked on the campaign for drinks rival Diageo’s launch of Toucan, the second of Guinness’ Brewhouse series of limited-edition beers.

In June Anheuser-Busch won the latest round in its 80-year legal struggle with Czech brewers Budejovicky Budvar to register the trademark Bud beer throughout Europe, with both companies claiming the right to the brand name Budweiser (MW, June 29).

Budweiser Ireland and DDB London were unavailable for comment as Marketing Week went to press.
