The Union has been appointed to handle the &£1.3m launch advertising business for price comparison website PeoplesChampion.com.
The venture is backed by media group SMG and headed by Standard Life Bank and Intelligent Finance (IF) founder Jim Spowart. The service will compare financial, travel and utilities prices, among others, and will compete against the likes of uSwitch and Motley Fool.
The Union will handle all on- and offline creative, as well as offline media work. The founders are also searching for an online media agency to work on the launch.
A TV campaign is already in production and is set to break in Scotland by the end of the month. The brand will eventually be rolled out south of the border using TV and other media, including radio.
Ian McAteer, The Union’s managing director, says: “PeoplesChampion.com is a great concept and has the potential to take a significant slice of the online price-comparison market.”
The PeoplesChampion platform is powered by UK online intermediary Moneysupermarket.com. It is expected to use the promotional prowess of SMG’s media properties, which include STV, Virgin Radio, Primesight and Pearl & Dean. SMG has acquired an 80% holding in the website, and is funding the branding and advertising push.
