HoMedics appoints Spirit to handle £1m ad account

HoMedics has awarded its creative business to Spirit Advertising as it pushes forward with its plans for a multi-million pound launch in the UK.

HoMedics has awarded its creative business to Spirit Advertising as it pushes forward with its plans for a multi-million pound launch in the UK.

The health company specialises in personal health products such as massage kits, relaxation sound machines, and spa and beauty treatments. It has been operating for 19 years in the US, where it is one of the largest consumer brands in the sector.

It also has distribution agreements with retailers in more than 60 countries around the world.

The UK advertising account is believed to be worth more than &£1m and it is expected that the marketing activity will kick off in October with a multimedia campaign to promote the Therapist Select Shiatsu Massage Cushion. UK marketing director Ann Rasure is running the company’s launch.

The appointment of Spirit follows the company awarding its media planning and buying business to Media Planning Group, owned by Havas, earlier this summer. The media account is believed to be worth around &£2m.

Until now, HoMedics’ main presence in the UK has been through Salter Housewares, a Kent-based manufacturer of houseware products, which it bought in April 2004.

Meanwhile, Spirit has also been appointed to handle the launch of the first Polish magazine in the UK. Hey Now comes from the same group that launched the UK’s first Polish radio station and is aimed at the growing number of Polish nationals living in this country.
