SingStar, the Sony PlaysStation "karaoke" game brand, has signed up as the sponsor of a new MTV show that features viewers trying to lip-synch to songs. The user-generated show will air on MTVs social network community channel, MTV Flux, which launches this week.

The show, Music Video Showdown, will be screened up to 50 times a week cross the MTV portfolio. A co-branded website will host a weekly track ahead of the show going on air and each week the most-viewed videos will be edited together to create a three-minute collage.

MTV Flux, which is one of a number of new MTV digital initiatives to be launched in recent months, will allow viewers to control content and offers them the opportunity to create their own TV advertisement. The interactive, community-based channel will deliver content via television, the internet and mobile phones.

SingStar is an interactive, karaoke-style game for the PlayStation 2 console. The game has been a success with female and non-gamers, who have been attracted by the musical element of the game.
