In need of a cunning plan to save the Fox

Time is running out for one of the most famous watering holes in adland, with the axe about to fall on the Intrepid Fox in Wardour Street.

The pub has been a fixture in Soho since the 1780s and in its present incarnation has become a mecca for goths and alternative culture vultures, not to mention trendy agency types. Mick Jagger, Richard Harris, Malcolm McClaren and The Sex Pistols have all been regulars down the years, but now the pub’s owners, Mitchells & Butler, have sold the site to developers and announced the closure with just days to spare. There’s plenty of opposition to the move – including a petition at www.gopetition.com/online/9488.html. And the date it’s to close? September 11.
