Lloyds TSB has appointed Accenture marketer Michael Payne as consumer banking marketing director. Payne’s role will also cover public relations and communications for the consumer banking division.
It follows the departure of interim consumer banking marketing director Katrina Cliffe, who joined American Express as head of customer management last month.
Cliffe was moved to the role after Lloyds TSB axed her job as head of card programmes (MW April 6). It followed the merging of its card and consumer divisions, a move attributed to the sale of Goldfish to Morgan Stanley earlier this year.
A number of high profile marketers have left the high street bank this year. Group marketing director Helen Stevenson left in March, while head of marketing Alan Gilmour stepped down in January after being moved to a sideways role late last year (MW November 24). Current accounts director Gordon Rankin, a former Barclays marketer, left in May (MW May 11).
Former Western Union chief executive Alan Silverstein is currently interim director of group marketing while Andrew Gillespie, former Barclays group director of marketing operations, is also carrying out a senior marketing role on a temporary basis.
Payne will report to Paul Pester, consumer banking managing director, and takes up his post next month. Payne is currently head of marketing and customer strategy at Accenture.
He previously worked at management consultants Abram Hawkes and Royal Bank of Scotland, where he held a number of senior marketing positions.
