Second high-profile marketer leaves Wanadoo after merger

Wanadoo marketing chief Philip Mehl has become the second high-profile marketer to leave in three weeks following the brand’s merger with Orange.

It is thought he does not have a job to go to.

Mehl, who joined Wanadoo two years ago, was the company’s director of sales and communications with overall responsibility for marketing. Peter Turner, who reported to Mehl as director of marketing communications, left at the end of last month (MW August 24).

It is thought that Mehl or Turner will not be directly replaced. Both were given equivalent roles when Wanadoo was rebranded as Orange Home earlier this year, but sources say Orange’s new head of advertising Rachel Macbeth will take on greater responsibility following their departures.

Mehl was vice-president of advertising and communications at T-Mobile International before joining Wanadoo.

He had overall responsibility for Wanadoo’s £15m advertising account, which was held by M&C Saatchi until France Telecom’s £200 pan-European advertising review earlier this year.

Fallon London and Paris hotshop Marcel were handed the combined consumer business following a protracted pitch, while Euro RSCG

won the business-to-business account.

Orange UK’s marketing department is run by Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke, who was appointed vice-president of marketing earleir this year (MW January 19).

Macbeth and director of brand marketing Pippa Dunn have day-to-day responsibility for the Orange brand in the UK.
