Norwich Union Life has appointed former Tesco and Boots marketer Crawford Davidson as marketing director.

Davidson joins the Aviva-owned organisation from Tesco where he was marketing director for Tesco.com, the internet shopping service, and Tesco Direct.

Previously, he was commercial and marketing director for Tesco Personal Finance, the supermarket’s joint venture with the Royal Bank of Scotland. Davidson joined Tesco as its first director of Clubcard in 2001. Prior to the appointment he was head of Advantage Card marketing at high street retailer Boots.

He is one of three new senior appointments at Norwich Union Life, part of the UK’s largest insurance brand Norwich Union. Nic Nicandrou joins as finance director and Graham Boffey as corporate and consumer distribution director.

A spokesman says the appointment will strengthen NUL’s consumer marketing as the company seeks to build its presence "significantly".

The news comes days after Aviva announced plans to cut 4,000 jobs across Norwich Union Life and its general insurance business, in an effort to cut costs by £250m a year.
