RMG’s Harman takes European role at Carlson

HarmanRMG Connect chief executive Jonathan Harman is joining Carlson Marketing in a senior European role. The news comes less than two weeks after it emerged that WPP Group was merging Sharpen Troughton Owens Response into RMG.

It had been reported that Harman would run the new-look agency, but instead he will join Carlson as senior vice-president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

In the newly created role, Harman will lead the UK business and also takes responsibility for creative, digital and planning across the EMEA region for Carlson, as well as Peppers & Rogers Consulting, which is owned by the Carlson group. He will report to EMEA president José Ferrão.

Carlson was realigned last year following the appointment of former DaimlerChrysler marketing chief Jim Schroer and Ferrão (MW September 29, 2005). The agency changed its name from Carlson Marketing Group to Carlson Marketing and formed three global divisions.

Harman, a former managing director of Claydon Heeley Jones Mason, says: "I’ve been impressed with Carlson’s efforts to build a successful business at a global as well as local level."
