MySpace premieres TV drama in UK media first

MySpace UK, the social networking site, will stream an episode of upcoming FX channel drama Brotherhood on the Web a week before the television transmission date in a landmark UK media first.

The first episode of Brotherhood will be available on MySpace ahead of the TV premier on October 9.

It is the first time that Fox International Channels, which operates 24 branded channels globally, has secured the promotional rights to preview a show over the internet.

Both MySpace.com and Fox are part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp media stable. FX’ sister channel in the US was the first network to partner the site soon after News Corp acquired MySpace owner Intermix Media for $580m (£360m). It previewed Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Nip/Tuck over the site.

Fox International Channels UK marketing director Diego Rock says the partnership makes sense for both brands. He adds: “It hopefully signifies a first step in a fruitful relationship with MySpace and a fuller strategy, going forward, of capitalising on all of Fox’s cross-promotional platforms.”
