Daily Telegraph appoints William Lewis editor

The Daily Telegraph has appointed William Lewis as its editor, taking over from John Bryant, who has been acting editor of the paper since last November.

Lewis joined The Daily Telegraph in autumn 2005 as joint deputy editor. In the summer of this year he became managing director (editorial) to oversee the final stages of the company’s move to Victoria.

Before joining the Telegraph Group, Lewis was business editor of The Sunday Times for three years. Previously, he had worked at the FT for over eight years, holding a number of posts including global news editor, mergers and acquisitions editor, and investment correspondent. He has also worked at The Mail on Sunday.

Bryant remains editor-in-chief of the Telegraph Group.

Telegraph Group chief executive Murdoch MacLennan says: “This is a time of great change for the paper, and for the rest of the company. As we complete our move to Victoria, and the integration of our business, Will has the vision, energy and determination not just to keep the Telegraph at the top of the business, but to inspire his team to build our brand across a whole new range of media products and win a new generation of readers.”
