EA hunts chief marketer to push mobile games

Software company Electronic Arts (EA) is seeking a marketing director to back the expansion of its rapidly growing mobile games division across Europe.

The company is looking for a digital specialist with online marketing or converging technology experience to create growth in the mobile arena.

It is understood that the marketing position is based in London, despite EA moving its European headquarters to Geneva in Switzerland earlier this year.

EA already has licensing deals with all the major network operators, allowing mobile users to play games via their handsets. According to EA, its best-selling PC game The Sims 2, which was launched as a mobile download last December, is now played by 1 million people.

The mobile marketing director is expected to report to EA vice-president of publishing Europe, Javier Ferreira. Ferreira is known to be keen to develop the mobile gaming market and believes the company’s relationships with mobile operators across Europe are key in reaching young and old players of EA games. In February, EA completed the $680m (367m) acquisition of mobile gaming publisher and developer Jamdat to expand its presence in the sector.

EA markets its products under four brand names: EA, EA Sports, EA Sports Big and Pogo. It posted revenues of $2.95bn (1.6bn) in its last financial year and had 27 titles that sold more than 1 million copies during the same period.
