Argos in ‘reindeer food’ charity promotion

Argos launches “reindeer food” packages, as part of a scheme to support its partnership with charity Help the Hospices.

Argos will encourage kids to remember Santa’s reindeer this Christmas with the launch of “reindeer food” packages across its stores. The launch is part of a scheme to support the retailer’s partnership with charity Help the Hospices.

The packages, which are made of oats and glitter, will be available across its 643 stores imminently and it is making a suggested charity donation of £1. It is hoped the scheme will raise £150,000 for the charity, which is trying to raise £1m by July next year.

Lorna Liggett, community affairs manager at Argos, says: “It is an incredibly simple idea, but we think this little packet of oats and glitter has the potential to be a best seller this Christmas. Every year, hundreds of millions of pounds are spent on novelty items, and we want to channel some of this money into the hospice movement.”

The move follows a series of fundraising initiatives as part of the tie up including the sale of customised wristbands during this year’s football World Cup, the launch of a mobile phone recycling scheme and a Tick To Give catalogue promotion.
