National Geographic hunts documentary makers online

National%20Geographic%20ChannelNational Geographic Channel has launched a user-generated website in a bid to find new documentary makers. The Frame Your World competition goes live this week.

Aspiring documentary makers are asked to submit a three-minute documentary on the theme of what makes an everyday object seem extraordinary. Other users will then be able to vote and comment on the films.

The channel says it will accept entries made either with conventional video cameras or mobile phones. It is being restricted to UK residents.

The winner will be given a digital filmmakers’ kit worth £2,000, including an Apple iMac, a Canon mini DV camcorder and editing software.

National Geographic Channels International is co-owned by National Geographic Television, Fox Entertainment Group and the NBC. BSkyB is also a shareholder in the UK and European arm.
