CLIC Sargent, the UK’s biggest children’s cancer charity, has ted former Virgin Mobile marketer Matthew Hunt as head of marketing.

The charity has been expanding its marketing team since the merger of CLIC and Sargent Cancer Care for Children last year.

Hunt, who spent five years in various marketing roles at Virgin Mobile, is leading a renewed marketing effort and has created a strategy to take the charity forward. His focus for next year will include donor acquisitions, legacy marketing, design of fundraising materials and product development.

Hunt decided to join CLIC Sargent after his three-year-old son was diagnosed with a tumour last year. He says: “My challenge is to raise public awareness of CLIC Sargent by opening new channels of fundraising to recruit supporters.”

Hunt’s first initiative is the launch of The Smile Shop, which he describes as the first virtual shopping experience for children with cancer in the UK.

It features services such as a play specialist, which helps children with cancer by encouraging them, through play, to understand the procedures and treatments they are experiencing.

Hunt says The Smile Shop will play a key role in the charity’s fundraising activity and help to increase the spend on services for children with cancer by 12% this year.

Hunt worked in the Virgin Mobile marketing team headed by James Kydd.
