AOL UK promotes Jonesco to MD

AOL UK has promoted vice-president of audience Andy Jonesco to managing director, following the sale of its internet access business to Carphone Warehouse for £370m last month.

Jonesco, a former managing director of Express Newspapers, joined AOL five years ago to oversee the interactive marketing team.

In the newly created position of managing director at AOL UK, he will be responsible for refocusing the business after Carphone bought its internet operation.

Jonesco has also been made head of pan-European sales and IM (instant messager) commercial alliances for AOL Europe. He will report to president of AOL Europe Carlo d’Asaro Biondo, who replaced Karen Thomson at the start of this month.

Meanwhile, AOL has appointed Randy Falco, president and chief operating officer of the NBC Television Group, as group chairman and chief executive. He replaces Jonathan Miller, who is stepping down after four years.
