Prepare for the happiest of dispatches

In the Diary’s experience couriers are not necessarily the cheeriest bunch of workers to be found ploughing their furrow in central London – and who can blame these leather-clad knights of the road, given the fact their working lives consist of removing their headgear, extracting signatures from pasty office workers, dodging rabid cabbies and drinking coffee on the pavement.

However, online delivery firm eCourier has bucked the trend by appointing a “head of happiness”.

It has hired Steven Kemp to take up the new role, which combines CRM and customer service and has the ambitious aim of “redefining the standards of customer focus in an industry that is notorious for its lack of customer service”.

It seems that eCourier has also spotted a new business opportunity, and will now not only deliver overdue documents, but also happiness itself.

And as a final coup-de-grace it has even issued Steven with a car bearing Bobby McFerrin’s catchphrase; “Don’t worry, be happy”.

The Diary would also like to point out that Mr McFerrin is still very much alive.
