Web portal Lycos.co.uk is launching an online television service, Lycos TV offering film, music and TV content.

The service has been launched in conjunction with US-based internet video specialist, ROO.

The platform will deliver new and archived content alongside the complete library of ROO’s video content, which includes the 20th Century Fox portfolio of films and Virgin Music. User-generated content will be incorporated in the coming months.

Advertisers will be able to buy spots on the channel.

Lycos UK managing director Jeffrey Lee says: “Our users demand an enriched Web experience and moving to a comprehensive online video content service was the obvious place to start.

“ROO’s technology meant that we could get a video portal up and running with a huge amount of video content available to users from the word go.”
