Virgin Digital revamps in UK but closes US operation
Virgin Digital UK has revamped its music download service with the launch of a new online store. It has also closed its US-based site after signing a deal with online download service, Napster.
The deal will give Napster exclusive rights to market its services directly to Virgin Digital’s existing subscriber base.
The UK site will continue to operate the download service as a standalone operation but it has relaunched to include new features such as a download rental club, music blog and online news service. It will also allow users to download an unlimited number of tracks and albums from a selection of over 2 million titles directly from the VirginDigital.com webpage, bypassing the need for additional software services such as iTunes, HMVDigital and Napster.
