EA adds individual stories to The Sims game franchise
US video games publisher Electronic Arts is extending its The Sims franchise with the launch of The Sims Stories. It aims to build on the success of the existing Sims’ games and bring in new gamers.
The game, which will be lap-top friendly, will introduce new characters and game play will follow a specific plot rather than allowing players to “roam free”.
The first game in the series, The Sims Life Stories, introduces a romantic comedy plot. Rod Humble, vice-president, head of studio for The Sims Division, says: “Everyone loves a good story. The Sims Life Stories gives players two wonderful romantic comedies to enjoy.”
The Sims Stories are standalone games that do not require plug-in accompanying products. The Sims Pet Stories and The Sims Castaway Stories are scheduled to launch this summer and winter next year, respectively.
EA says the popularity of The Sims franchise is because the games appeal beyond a traditional gaming audience. More than half of The Sims players are women.
